Star Transportation Driver Receives 10 Year Safe Driving Award

(Nashville, Tenn.) Nov. 5, 2008-Star Transportation, Inc. recently honored OTR Driver Russell Dickerson with a 10 year safe driving award. Dickerson says he was elated to reach this benchmark. "I am the 86th person since 1984 to receive this award at my company. It means a lot to me that I was able to achieve this on time," he said.

Ronnie Holland, Vice President of Risk Management at Star Transportation recognized the achievement by presenting Dickerson with a company ring to commemorate the accomplishment in a surprise ceremony, Sept. 12.

"Russell is a great person and a valuable asset to our company. He continually supersedes expectations," Holland said. "Highly motivated, he's diligent about what he does and an outstanding member of our team. We are very proud of him."

Dickerson drove a truck for nearly 20 years before moving to Tennessee in 1996 for his current position, where he has been for the last 12 years. When it comes to the road, Dickerson says "a driver's record is his livelihood" and that he's fortunate.

"No matter what you do, you always want to remain as polished as possible. I have worked hard and I'm fortunate that I don't have to settle for less because I have earned this position," he said. "My job provides a very nice living and I do not take that forgranted at any level. Truck driving is 100 percent all the time. You must be on your game everyday to do this job well and to do it safely."

His success, he says, has been the result of a strong support team. That includes the staff and team of fellow drivers that he works with at Star as well as his wife, Susan and their four daughters. "My wife, daughters and grandchildren are so important to me. Someone once said that success does not come from the person behind the wheel, it's the person behind the person, behind the wheel and Susan has been there for me every mile of the way."

When he is not on the road or spending time with family, Dickerson enjoys participating in charity motorcycle events. On the road, Dickerson goes by the CB handle, "Desperado" from the famous Eagle's tune.

He plans to continue with Star Transportation for a long time. "I enjoy working with this company. Along with driving, I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to assist in the planning of our driver appreciation events and I hope to continue to have the opportunity to do so," he said. "Truck driving is not about one person and I didn't achieve this award alone."
