Fueling Your Success at Atlas
Ask any owner-operator what the biggest operating expense is today, and chances are good he or she will respond by talking about the cost of fuel.
Atlas Van Lines Inc., with its corporate headquarters in Evansville, Ind., has addressed this concern by creating one of the top fuel surcharge programs for its owner-operators in the Commercial Truckload Division (C.T.D.).
“Unlike a lot of programs out there, Atlas pays a mileage fuel surcharge on 100 percent of miles dispatched, both loaded and empty, and it is updated weekly as the national average changes,” says Mike Page, manager of corporate resources for Atlas Van Lines.
Page also explained that the amount Atlas pays owner-operators for the fuel surcharge is based upon changes in the Department of Energy National Average diesel fuel index. As of the end of July, Atlas paid 34 cents for all miles.
“This means the out of pocket cost at the pump is drastically reduced and the bottom line is increased for our owner-operators,” said Page. “Add to the fact that Atlas also offers fuel-saving light loads to its C.T.D. owner-operators and you have a win-win situation across the board.”
