Driven Women
He never gets a ticket
While relaxing at one of my favorite truck stops, a woman stopped at my table, stared at me for a moment, then said, “Can I talk with you?” Her name was Anna, and before I knew it, she was seated. This is what she shared with me:
“My husband, Charlie, is a truck driver, and he must get stopped by police once a month for speeding. He’s never received a point, never had to go to court, never had any consequences other than paying a fine. His fines are either greatly reduced, or he’s gotten off entirely. He gets off every time!
“When I get stopped, I get the book thrown at me, even with a clean license! Does a CDL give truckers the right to drive recklessly?”
Depending upon the officer, the location, the alignment of the sun, moon and stars, a trucker may be given a break. But if a big truck is stopped doing well over the limit, you can bet that the officer will be checking out a few things other than his record.
After we chatted awhile, Charlie walked up, delighted to see Anna making friends with a female trucker. We shook hands, and he sat down. “So, Charlie,” I said, “Your wife thinks that truckers have a license to drive recklessly. Are you that impatient, an ineffective time manager, or just an arrogant fool?” Charlie’s face got beet red, and he said, “Did Anna tell you about my accidents? Only four of them were my fault!” He grabbed Anna’s hand, who was smiling ear-to-ear, and said, “We gotta go, or we’ll be late.”
I wonder how their vacation’s going?
Drive safely and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It’s a great time of the year to be a trucker!
