Driven Women
Pioneer truckers
I was recently contacted by a national television producer of a morning show to profile a few women who have turned their lives around by pursuing a trucking career. Within four hours of sending out an APB to all of our advertisers for women truckers with a great story to tell, I received hundreds of phone calls and emails from carriers around the country. To me, the response from our advertisers was as rewarding as the call from the television producer.
Over the next few issues, you’ll be hearing about some of the women I spoke with and their stories. If you think your story is unique, please contact me at the email address below.
Janet M.’s father bought a truck for her when she was just 18 years old, and she has been driving professionally ever since. Today at 50, Janet is a company driver running for Marten Transport. “I can’t believe I waited so long to make the move from O/O to company driver. It’s great!”
Whether it was racing cars, motorcycle riding, or trucking, her family has always supported her decisions. Janet learned the ropes by keeping her eyes and ears open and her mouth shut. “I would always find the oldest driver in the restaurant and sit next to him and just listen.” What about women in general, Janet? “I don’t have any tolerance for women who only drive straight. A woman should be able to take care of the load.”
Trucking’s provided Janet with financial independence, confidence and a healthy self-esteem. Do you know someone who could benefit from those qualities?
Rock on, ladies!
GG
P.S. We’re in a holding pattern with the TV show, so stay tuned to “Driven Women!”
