Exceeding the Craziness Quota

Dear Murphy,

As a new driver living in Florida, last winter was my first opportunity to drive in snow and ice. First I got caught in an icy snowstorm in Memphis. Next, my trailer froze in the middle of an inter-
section in Indiana. I had to be pulled backwards by a backhoe.
Then I had to drive through another snowstorm in Vermont. For good measure, I got a speeding
ticket in Ohio. All of this happened within four months.
To make a bad situation worse, I was fired for having an accident on a clear, sunny day. No one was hurt, but I tore up the front of the trailer a little. Maybe one day I can laugh, but right now
I’m worried about my driving career.

Dear Nancy,

When it rains, it pours. Except in your case, in which case it snows or freezes over. Welcome to a little slice of life we like to call Murphy’s World.

You have good reason to be worried about your driving career. Sitting in the cab of a big rig is no place to be learning how to handle snowy, icy road conditions for the first time. Picking up a speeding ticket and being involved in an accident is not exactly the mark of an over-the-road professional, and you can’t blame either of those problems on the weather.
It sounds like you need to re-evaluate your career choice. We all make mistakes and accidents will happen, but before you climb back in the saddle (assuming you get a second chance), think long and hard about what it takes to be a true professional driver. If you’re up to the challenge, dedicate yourself to the profession and go for it. If not, consider another line of work because the last thing Murphy’s World needs is more craziness. Trust me, we’re up to our eyeballs in the stuff already.
