Web Site Keeps Trucker Buddy Connected to His Class

Jimmy Frost is not your typical Web designer, but he’s not your typical truck driver, either. Jimmy Frost is a Trucker Buddy who shares his over the road experiences with students through his Web site, www.asphaltadventures.com.

Jimmy complements teacher Jewell Schaefer’s curriculum by adding links to his site that correspond with the studies of his third grade class at B.C. Charles Elementary in Newport News, VA. “He has been invaluable to me as a teacher because he finds Web sites for the students to go to in order for them to study the material more closely on their own,” Ms. Schaefer says.

In addition to his Web site, Jimmy sends the children postcards from the road and brings books, T-shirts and posters for the class when he and his cat, Zoey, visit the school. The students in Ms. Schaefer’s class appreciate Jimmy’s visits. They especially enjoyed the pizza party, but nominated him as Trucker Buddy of the month so that they could help him spend the prize money.

Jimmy is a company driver for Crete Carriers and lives in Virginia Beach, VA. He is one of nearly 4,000 professional drivers who share their time with elementary classes throughout the world. The only criteria to be a Trucker Buddy is to be a truck driver, willing to send a postcard each week to a class in grades two through eight. Drivers can apply online at www.truckerbuddy.org or by calling 1-800-MY BUDDY. There are many classes still waiting for a Trucker Buddy for this school year.

Jimmy will receive a personalized jacket, along with a check for $300 to spend on the class and $200 in Trucker Buddy merchandise.
Pro Trucker and Over the Road magazines are proud sponsors of the Trucker Buddy program.
