Hill Bros. earns ConAgra honors
Hill Bros. Transportation has been awarded ConAgra Foods’ 2008 Temperature Carrier of the Year award. Mike Liebherr, vice president of transportation for ConAgra, said, “Hill Bros.’ great service and focus on helping Con-Agra Foods take advantage of supply chain opportunities are what makes Hill Bros. such a good partner.” In other news, Hill Bros. continued its support of “Toys for Tots” and “Operation Others.” As part of the “Operation Others” program, Hill Bros. city drivers picked up and delivered food for needy families.

Schneider earns P&G award
Schneider National received Procter & Gamble’s inaugural Excellence Award for consistently providing a high level of service to the multinational manufacturer. “Procter & Gamble has such an extensive network of suppliers that having the Schneider name rise to the top truly is a great honor,” said Steve Matheys, executive vice president of global commercial services at Schneider National.
Landstar honors million-mile drivers
Landstar System, Inc. recognized 80 men and women for their outstanding safety records and professionalism behind the wheel. Leading the 2008 class of Million Mile Safe Drivers are 3-million milers Fred Durbin and Tommy Stiles. Eight others reached the 2 million mile mark: Roger Bell, Bruce Bryant, Robert Dubreuil, Bill Higgins, George Prewitt, Steven Tillett, Duane Vorst and Gary Wahl. In other news, Landstar named Lynette Blazier and Angela Jordan the January Employees of the Month at the company’s service centers in Rockford, IL and Jacksonville, FL, respectively.
Old Dominion opens service center
Hugh Morris, vice president of the Southern region for Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., announced a service center opening in Columbus, GA. The 21-door facility is located on a 3-acre site at 310 Columbus Manchester Expressway. “The opening of the Columbus Service Center will greatly enhance our presence in the local market,” said Morris.
Pottle teams up with Wreaths Across America
Barry Pottle, president and CEO of Pottle’s Transportation and past chairman of the Truckload Carriers Association, drove a load of 5,400 wreaths to decorate Arlington National Cemetery for the holidays. Pottle’s truckload of wreaths were one of about 30 loads being delivered to 350 different cemeteries across the United States as part of the Wreaths Across America program.
