Maverick Transportation honored three of their professional drivers–Dale Dunn, Billy Daniels and Warren Scott–for achieving two million miles of safe driving. Con-way honors Drivers of the Month 
       
Con-way Truckload announced the following monthly driver award recipients for July, August and September 2008: July–Jerry West (company driver), Robert Melendez and Joe Melendez (company team), Marvin Peck (contractor driver), James and Frances Doty (contractor team); August–Andy Sipple (company driver), Oscar Torres and Miguel Barriage (company team), Dennis Hastings (contractor driver) and Isabel and Dulce Aldrette (contractor team); September–Jose Herrera (company driver), DeVerne Hunt and Carole Smith (company team), Leroy Sutton (contractor driver) and Michael and Jennifer Burns (contractor team).

 
Atlas receives environmental award    
     
Atlas Van Lines received the 2008 John Biasini Environmental Excellence Award from the Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana. Atlas won in the energy/renewable resources category because the company significantly reduced its energy and renewable resource output in 2007.

 

Schneider Bulk sharpens emergency prep skills
  
Schneider National closed out Disaster Preparedness Month in September by hosting an emergency preparedness exercise for company and hazardous materials responders. Teams worked through various scenarios while Schneider instructors monitored their activities and provided feedback about how each situation was handled. The exercise is the most recent example of the company’s involvement in community emergency preparedness training.

USA Truck announces earning increase
        
USA Truck, Inc. announced base revenue of $103.7 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, 2008, an increase of 4.4% from the same quarter of 2007. Net income increased from $16,000 for the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2007 to $2.4 million for the same quarter of 2008. 

 

Landstar names Employees of the Month 
   
Landstar System named Rhonda Hall and Jackie Croft its November Employees of the Month at the company’s service centers in Rockford, IL, and Jacksonville, FL, respectively. Hall, an administrative assistant in the Information Services department, has been with Landstar for 10 years. Croft, an agency services coordinator in the Agent and Technology Services department, has been with Landstar for five years. Landstar President and CEO Henry Gerkens commended Hall and Croft on their dedication to a job well done.

 

MGM Transport salutes million-mile drivers

MGM Transport Corp. recently recognized the following million-miler drivers: George Church (1,459,872 miles, hired in 1987), David Powell (1,211,791 miles, hired in 1991), James Lindsey (1,449,972 miles, hired in 1994), Tim Ledbetter (1,067,630 miles, hired in 1998), David Smith (1,244,975 miles, hired in 1999) and Ronald Norman (1,022,000 miles, hired in 2001). The drivers will be honored at the company’s Winter Safety Meeting and given a MGM million-mile jacket acknowledging their accomplishment.

        
Fikes Truck Line hosts festival
        
The annual Fikes Fall Festival provided contractors and their families with great food, activities and a drawing for a brand new 2008 flatbed trailer. Along with the festivities, Fikes gave away many prizes and service awards. David Ponce, a contractor who has been with Fikes Truck Line for 19 years, won the grand prize, the new trailer. “I wasn’t expecting to win anything,” Ponce said. “I was just down there to have a good time.” Added President and CEO Gary Salisbury: “We host this event each year in an effort to give back to the contractors who work out there every day. What started out to be a very unsuccessful festival weather-wise turned into one of the most successful fall festivals that we have ever had.”

 

Troop Transition announces new program  
        
Troop Transition, a unique career transition program designed for the exclusive use of those who are serving in the United States Armed Forces, recently unveiled Troops 2 Truckers, a new program that targets service members seeking post-service civilian employment in the trucking industry. “Troops 2 Truckers not only provides a path to employment for troops but also helps meet the trucking industry’s need for drivers,” says Kevin M. Denny, CEO of Troop Transition.
