Dart names Contractors of the Month
Dart Transit Company announced its June 2007 Contractors of the Month: John Neely at the Dallas Operating Center and Anita Robertson at the Eagan Operating Center. Con-tractors of the Month are recognized for their on-time performance, dependability and safety record. Neely has been in the trucking industry 15 years and has leased to Dart since 2004. Robertson has contracted with Dart for three of her seven years in the industry.

DOTAuthority.com renames conference
DOTAuthority.com renamed the Orlando Truckers’ Conference as “The Truckers’ Conference.” A new Web site, www.thetruckers-conference.com, is under construction. The Truckers’ Conference is being redesigned to focus more on its primary mission of offering educational seminars to truckers.

ATS expands heavy haul division assets
Anderson Trucking Service took delivery of its first 19-axle trailer. The trailer has a 32-foot expandable (to 38-foot) flat deck for conventional heavy haul cargo that can be changed out for 50-foot beam deck for transporting equipment that needs these specialized requirements. The trailer can carry loads up to 205,000 pounds.

Boyd Bros. driver reaches one million miles
Boyd Bros. Transportation recently honored company driver Calvin J. Pearson for reaching the one million mile career milestone in only nine years. Out of the company’s 750 drivers, Pearson is the 123rd person to achieve this feat in the company’s 51-year history.
Quality Carriers owner-operator rescues kidnapped child
Oscar Davila, an owner-operator for Quality Carriers, rescued a kidnapped 11-year-old child on Aug. 18. Davila was driving on Route 6 in Pennsylvania when he saw the girl walking alone in the dark. "When I pulled over to see what happened, she told me, 'I need help because I was kidnapped,’ " Davila says. Davila called 911 and reported the incident to the police and then called the girl’s parents. The case is still under investigation.
Women In Trucking
Women In Trucking Inc., a non-profit organization created to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry and assist in promoting a more female-friendly environment for those already in the industry, announced that in less than six months since its inception the organization has grown to more than 500 corporate and individual members. “I believe the strength behind the organization lies in the varied and vast career success of our board of directors,” says Ellen Voie, WIT chairwoman and Schneider National's manager of recruiting and retention programs.
